Mental Health Support for Organ Transplant Recipients and Families
The organ transplant journey is often far more complex than a single medical event. For recipients and their families, it can involve prolonged uncertainty, life-threatening illness, invasive procedures, and ongoing dependence on medical systems. Even when a transplant is successful, individuals may grapple with fear of rejection, changes in identity, survivor’s guilt, and the emotional weight of knowing their life was saved through another’s loss. Families frequently carry their own burden—managing caregiving responsibilities, chronic stress, anticipatory grief, and the pressure to remain strong while navigating unpredictable outcomes. Together, these experiences can leave lasting emotional impacts that are not always visible, making psychological support an essential part of healing and adjustment.
Therapeutic Approach
I work with organ transplant recipients and their families, offering compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy to support the emotional and psychological complexities of the transplant journey. Transplant experiences can be life-saving while also deeply stressful or traumatic, affecting identity, relationships, and emotional well-being long before and after surgery. My work integrates talk therapy, nervous system regulation and recovery, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Trauma (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), grief and loss therapy, and trauma-specific treatment using EMDR. These modalities work to address anxiety, depression, chronic illness, medical trauma, caregiver stress, and unresolved grief. All sessions are provided remotely and are available only to clients in Ontario, offering accessible, confidential support from the comfort of home.
